Description from the seller
The Stopwatch (1893-1898) – Complete bound collection of the historic Spanish clockmaking magazine
Description
Magnificent period binding that brings together the collection of the professional clockmaking magazine “El Cronómetro,” published in Badalona between 1893 and 1898.
Considered one of the most important technical publications in Spanish clockmaking at the end of the 19th century, this work constitutes a valuable documentary source for historians, clockmakers, collectors, and scholars of time measurement.
The volume includes the issues published from no. 1 (April 1893) to no. 69 (December 1898), bound in a single volume with a leather spine and tips. It contains abundant illustrations, technical engravings, clockmaking studies, specialized articles, advertisements by manufacturers and traders of clocks, tools, and supplies of the era.
Among its pages there are interesting references to the Spanish and European clockmaking industry, as well as historical advertising from 19th-century manufacturers and distributors.
The magazine is documented in specialized bibliographies on the history of Spanish clockmaking.
Condition in keeping with its age. Solid binding with visible wear on covers and spine. Paper with a patina typical of the period. According to the bibliographic note included, the collection is considered complete although there are some pagination gaps, probably due to the removal of original covers or advertising pages at the time of binding.
A piece of great historical and documentary interest for clockmaking collectors, technical bibliography, and industrial heritage.
