Thorens - PPA 990 Moving Coil (MC) Head Amplifier / Preamplifier

This is a pre-preamplifier capable to interface MC cartridges to a standard MM phono input of an amplifier. The item was new, but I opened and tested it, checking that it was working as it should. Compared to standard phono preamplifiers, it is a really good choice, better than nowadays Thorens preamplifiers... (except the flagship model, that I cannot compare). But remember it cannot replace a phono preamplifier, as it is only buffering and amplifying the signal. It can handle most MC cartridges, as I tested it on cartridges that require an input impedance of a preamplifier from tens of ohms to several hundreds of ohms. Its advantage is that you can position it very near the source, which is ideal when dealing with such small signals. You can check on the web the general very positive opinion about this old but still technically competitive audiophile gear.
