Description from the seller
Magnificent Art Nouveau (Modern) antique tea and coffee service, made by the famous German manufactory Orivit around 1900. Founded at the end of the 19th century in Cologne, the Orivit house became one of the leading manufacturers of decorative objects of the Art Nouveau era and earned international recognition for the exceptional quality of its workmanship and its refined aesthetics. Today, Orivit pieces are present in museum collections around the world.
This elegant set comprises three pieces:
• coffee pot — height 21 cm (capacity over 1 L)
• teapot — height 13 cm (capacity about 750 ml)
• sugar bowl — height 9 cm, 13 × 9 cm
The service is made of pewter with silvering and is distinguished by fluid, organic lines, characteristic of the Art Nouveau aesthetic. The pouring spouts of the teapot and coffee pot are in the shape of open beaks, while the entire surface is decorated with gentle lines representing tulips. The silvering is not applied over the entire surface, which adds a particular aesthetic effect.
The teapot and coffee pot bear the mark “Orivit” as well as model number 2098, while the sugar bowl bears the mark “Orivit” and model number 2100 (a different number, possibly due to a gilded interior).
Overall good condition — some signs of wear and age-related stains. The set is in good general condition for its age: without cracks, with a beautiful natural patina and excellent decorative appeal. The interior of all pieces is in good condition. A rare and elegant ensemble, which will make a handsome addition to a collection of Art Nouveau-style objects or a refined decorative piece for an interior.
