Beautiful painting of "Memento Mori", done in oil on a round metal plate 0.5 cm thick; I don’t know what metal it is, but the plate is very solid.
Painted probably around the middle of the 20th century, it comes from ecclesiastical circles in Salento (Southern Italy).
It is unsigned.
It depicts a human skull resting on a surface with the Latin inscription MORS (death), symbols that remind man of the brevity of life and the futility of earthly things.
The quality of the painting is very high, as you can see from the photos; the light and shadow effects are exceptional.
Note that the work shows inevitable small signs of aging, but no serious damage that would spoil its beauty.

Bellissimo dipinto di "Memento Mori", realizzato a olio su una lastra di metallo rotonda dallo spessore di 0,5 cm, non so che metallo sia ma la lastra è molto solida.
Dipinto probabilmente verso la metà del XX secolo, proviene dagli ambienti ecclesiastici del Salento (Sud Italia).
Non è firmato.
E' rappresentato un teschio umano poggiato su un piano con la scritta latina MORS (morte), simboli che ricordano all'uomo la brevità della vita e l'inutilità delle cose terrene.
La qualità del dipinto è altissima, come si può vedere dalle foto, eccezionali gli effetti di luce e ombre.
Attenzione, l'opera presenta inevitabili piccoli segni del tempo, ma nessun danno grave che ne rovina la bellezza.
