Description from the seller
Origin: Gabon
Tribe name: Bapunou
Material: Wood
Dimension: 46 cm

Statuette Punu-Lumbo (Gabon).
This figure is depicted seated on a small stool, knees bent and raised.
Attributes: It holds in front, at hand level, two circular concave objects that recall the shape of bowls or ritual vessels.
Silhouette: The body is slender, with an elongated neck, characteristic of the statuary of this region.
Details of the face and hairstyle
Face: The face presents a serene expression. There are inlaid eyes (probably cowries or a similar material) and delicate features, typical of the Punu-Lumbo aesthetic which often favors a form of idealization.
Hairstyle: The hairstyle is structured, topped with a small bun or central apex, and falls toward the back, following an elegant line that emphasizes the verticality of the head.
Materials and condition
Added elements: Notably at the back in the photo there are remnants of fibers or fabrics attached to the statuette’s waist, suggesting it once wore a ritual garment.
This piece appears to be a cult or symbolic object, the vessels held by the figure possibly evoking an offering or a specific function within Punu-Lumbo initiation societies.
