Kpelié mask - Senufo - Mali

Mask - Senoufo - Wood - Mali - 45 cm.

Beautiful Senoufo Kpelié mask coming from the southern region of Mali near Misséni.
Oval human face surrounded by geometric patterns and a rounded crown on top.
This crown is decorated with two lizard motifs and a breast in its center.
The rear edge of the mask is entirely covered with red and beige wool strands.
The eyes are half-closed, the mouth slightly open.
The nose is long and straight.
The wood is dense, with a beautiful dark brown and glossy patina.
This kind of mask was used during Poro initiation rites.
It is in very good condition and of a very original shape.
