Bedspread - 246 cm - 255 cm

Impressive pure silk double bedspread from a large size, dating to the late 1800s to early 1900s in the Louis-Philippe style. Given its ample dimensions, it consists of two silk panels sewn together on the inside, so you only see a central seam, but that does not detract from its beauty. They were sewn so well that the embroidery and designs align perfectly. A detail that is only noticeable when you approach closely. Historically, it was common to sew fabrics for different uses, diversifying them.

As for color, the background is light blue, while the embroidered designs are in gold. It is all one piece of embroidery, with circles worked with outer lines to enrich it, and at the center a flower. Below, there are willow branches embroidered like leaves. It is all a geometric work with these drawings placed asymmetrically, one up top and one bottom. It is not the classic damask, but embroidery with designs arranged as if it were a tapestry. This treatment continues on the two side parts and at the foot of the bed.

It is of generous proportions, precisely because old beds were taller; in fact, on my bed, which even though from the 1700s has modern slats, it reaches to the floor. It measures 246 cm in length and 255 cm in width, to which a 14 cm fringe must be added, so it fits a bed perfectly. A straight, simple fringe that echoes the colors of the bedspread. It was custom-made by my family precisely for the beauty of the colors and the type of silk, but you can see it has been used very little because the silk is in excellent condition, as is the fringe. They made a lot of linens thinking of the dowry to give to the children, and given the large number of bedspreads I found many never used. The fact that it has two small stains typical of cashmere (cashmere? or packaging marks) that I photographed attests to its age and shows that this is an antique bedspread, but they do not detract from its beauty. The type of pure silk used is of great value.

I have therefore written “good condition” precisely because of these two stains; otherwise it is in excellent condition.

My ancestors placed great importance on the home and loved to renew the drapes, always having linens made that expressed beauty and refinement. It is of generous size, including the fringe, because as I have already noted, old beds were higher, so it fits a bed perfectly, reaching to the floor.

It is part of the trousseau I received, and given the large number of bedspreads in fabrics and colors, I am selling many so they can have a new life. Given its ample dimensions, I have even used it as a sofa cover, due to the beauty of its colors, and as a table cover laid on a wall-adjacent table reaching to the floor, with a white embroidered cloth on top to display the designs.

It easily coordinates with the colors, fabrics, and drapes of a home. Beautiful to use on an antique bed to highlight its importance, but it also stands out on a simple modern bed. In fact, I would say it would give a touch of elegance and refinement. It blends easily with classic or modern furnishings. When something is beautiful, there is always a use for it. One only needs imagination and a love for the home furnishings in which one lives. Every home reflects the taste and refinement of its inhabitant. The buyer will decide how to use it.

I ship with a private courier, not the postal service, so it arrives faster and with double packaging, and communication is simpler.

Given its measures, the bedspread will be shipped wrapped in thousands of bubbles and placed in a box to offer greater protection.
