Description from the seller
Beautiful Icon of the 19th-century Russian School.
Representing Saint George slaying the dragon – Egg tempera and silvered background on chalk preparation, on wood.
Representation of Saint George on a white horse fighting the dragon. The saint, in armor and wearing a red mantle, holds his lance raised; beneath him lies the conquered dragon at the edge of the water.
Red border all around with an inscription in Cyrillic alphabet in the upper margin of the image: “Saint Great Martyr George.”
On the right, the scene of the king and princess saved from the dragon, a detail commonly found in Orthodox iconography of Saint George.
On the sides: small figures of additional saints (probably protective or commissioning saints).
Tradition: Eastern Orthodox Russian or Balkan.
The light background, red inscriptions, stylized architectures, and side panels recall provincial Russian productions or sometimes Greco-Balkan ones.

Technique: Egg tempera
Dimensions: 35× 31 x 2.5 cm.
Condition: Shows signs of age-related wear, abrasions, small defects, and small retouchings.
