Description from the seller
Rare collector's item.
The Yamaha CDX-700 is a very well-regarded vintage CD player from Yamaha’s “Natural Sound” era, produced around 1987. It sits above entry-level models and is considered one of Yamaha’s better late-1980s players thanks to its solid transport, Burr-Brown DAC, and reliable construction.
Description
Main features:
single-disc CD player
Yamaha “Natural Sound” series
Burr-Brown PCM56P 16-bit DAC
4× oversampling digital filter
programmable playback
shuffle/repeat
direct track access
high-quality transport mechanism
available in black or silver
Technical specs:
Frequency response: 5Hz–20kHz
Dynamic range: >96 dB
Signal-to-noise ratio: >100 dB
THD: 85 dB
Weight: about 4.2–4.6 kg
Original price:
around 1000 DM in Germany
¥63,800 in Japan.
The CDX-700 also used a surprisingly serious transport mechanism related to higher-end Yamaha players. Some enthusiasts note similarities with transports used in flagship models.
Sound quality
The CDX-700 is generally known for:
smooth, warm presentation
strong midrange
non-fatiguing treble
solid stereo imaging
Compared with many cheap 1990s CD players:
heavier construction
better analog stage
cleaner power supply
more “analog-like” sound character
Vintage audio enthusiasts still like these Yamaha Natural Sound players because they tend to sound musical rather than overly sharp or clinical.
