Vintage Michelin enameled tire-pressure chart, France, 1968
Original enameled advertisement sign from Michelin, dated 1968 and made in France. The sign shows at the top the famous Michelin man (Bibendum) in action with a tire, with below an extensive table with recommended tire pressures for conventional tires of passenger cars, “Pneus conventionnels pour voitures de tourisme 1968.”
The table lists dozens of brands and models from that era, including Citroën, Renault, Peugeot, Volkswagen, Ford, Fiat, BMW, Mercedes and many others, with per-model the tire size and the correct pressure in bar and lbs for front and rear. A wonderful snapshot of the cars that defined street life at the time. This type of sign hung in garages and gas stations as a practical aid for mechanics.
The blue and yellow color scheme with the recognizable Michelin logo gives the sign a strong retro advertising look. The sign has four mounting holes in the corners, making it easy to hang.
The sign has never been hung and has laid flat for 58 years, together with a few other examples. As a result, some moisture has accumulated between the sheets, leading to some weathering appropriate to its age. A special collectible for lovers of vintage car advertising, Michelin or garage decor.
