Mary with Child after Jean Del Cour – plaster – Belgium – 20th century

Sculpture of Mary with the Child Jesus, executed after the famous Baroque design of Jean Del Cour. Mary holds the Child in her left arm while her richly pleated mantle falls in broad, flowing movements around the body. The dynamic composition and the graceful draperies closely align with the Baroque vocabularies of the Liège master. The original bronze model by Jean Del Cour is located on the fountain at Vinâve d'Île in Liège, where it has adorned the cityscape since the 17th century.
Height 49 cm; in good overall condition with signs of aging and a repair to Jesus' right leg.
