YIXING – Teapot in zisha clay, pumpkin-shaped, handmade in China in the 20th century, with double seals, about 25 cm long, 13 cm high, 9.5 cm wide, capacity ~450 ml, weight ~640 g, in good condition with light signs of use and age.
Description from the seller
YIXING – Naturalistic zisha clay teapot in the shape of a pumpkin, double seal, 20th century
A highly魅力ful specimen belonging to the ceramic tradition of Yixing, entirely hand-shaped in zisha clay according to a refined naturalistic language. The form evokes a mature pumpkin, symbol of prosperity and harmony in Chinese culture, interpreted with sculptural balance and strong plastic presence.
The globular, vibrant and tactile body is animated by a deliberately irregular dotted finish that enhances the natural grain of the clay and creates visual depth. The handle reproduces a woody branch with a simulated crack, while a leaf applied in relief harmoniously dialogues with the main volume, imparting movement and authenticity to the whole.
The clay presents a compact and fine structure, with olive-brown tones that intensify temporarily upon contact with water, a characteristic typical of good high-fired zisha. The sound upon light tapping is dry and metallic, indicating proper maturation in the kiln. Internally the surface appears smooth and well finished; the spout includes an internal filter, while the lid fits precisely, ensuring excellent seal during pouring.
Particularly evocative is the patina aged over time, visible both externally and internally, with natural saturation in the grooves and slight color variations that attest to mindful use and clay quality. The surface shows no glaze nor artificial treatments, preserving its material integrity and authenticity.
Under the base there is a square seal in seal script (zhuanshu), accompanied by an internal oval seal, following the practice of Yixing workshops in the 20th century, an element that confirms a consciously handcrafted and non-serial production.
Maximum length 25 cm (spout-handle), width about 9.5 cm, height 13 cm from base to top of lid. Capacity about 450 ml. Weight about 640 g.
20th century Chinese artisanal production, in dialogue with the great naturalistic school of Yixing. A piece with strong stage presence, capable of linking function, tradition and collectible value.
The photographs are an integral part of the description and faithfully document the current state, material details, patina and seals present on the object. Please study them carefully for a complete assessment.
The object will be packed with extreme care, using professional materials and protections adequate to the ceramic nature of the piece, to ensure its integrity during transport. Tracked and carefully protected shipment.
