Description from the seller
Stunning and elegant fall-front secretary desk (bureau à abattant) made of walnut wood, featuring the sinuous and harmonious lines typical of the Louis XV style.
The front features a large drop-front door and a spacious bottom drawer, both embellished with beautifully shaped relief mouldings with "eared" corners, recalling the finest Italian cabinet-making tradition. The piece stands on slender, curved legs (en cabriole), connected by a wavy apron decorated in the centre with a refined floral carving.
Unique internal details:
Opening the drop-front reveals the inner cabinet (scarabattolo), equipped with a glass shelf and a large writing surface upholstered in vintage green velvet finished with light silver-toned trim.
The lower drawer conceals a fascinating artisanal detail: the internal sides feature a refined, hand-executed radial geometric perforation.
Burnished bronze handles and escutcheons, complete with period-appropriate keys and matching tassels.
Condition and Restoration:
The piece is in excellent aesthetic and structural condition. It has undergone a meticulous conservative restoration at the specialized ArdyLab workshop. The treatment involved deep nourishment of the wood using petroleum oil, preserving its beautiful original patina, followed by a final glossy finish strictly executed by hand with natural shellac applied by pad (French polish). Sound, solid structure, ready to be placed in any interior.
