Art Deco ostrich feather evening fan, circa 1925–1935, with black and charcoal feathers, tortoiseshell‑effect guards and sticks, white metal paste-set mounts, made in the United Kingdom, measuring 67 cm wide and 36 cm high, in fair condition with an old crack to one outer guard and a broken ostrich feather.
Description from the seller
A striking Art Deco evening fan dating from circa 1925–1935, mounted with luxurious natural ostrich feathers in shades of black and charcoal grey. The fan is fitted with beautifully mottled faux tortoiseshell-effect guards and sticks, enhanced by white metal mounts set with sparkling paste stones, reflecting the refined glamour of the Art Deco period.
Large feather fans of this type were fashionable accessories for evening wear during the 1920s and 1930s, combining dramatic scale with elegant craftsmanship. Today they are equally appreciated as decorative objects and as fine examples of Art Deco design. The fan retains its original black velvet wrist loop, further contributing to its period character.
Good antique condition, with wear consistent with age and use. One outer guard has an old crack with a historic repair, and one ostrich feather is broken. Minor age-related wear and light fraying to the feathers are present. Despite these imperfections, the fan retains its impressive decorative presence. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description.
