Description from the seller
Antique Wrought Iron Baby Crib – Liberty/Industrial Style – Late 19th / Early 20th Century
Fascinating and rare antique baby crib (or display cradle) made entirely of wrought iron and metal profiles, dating from the end of the 19th century or the early 1900s. This piece stands out for the elegance of the curved lines and the ruggedness typical of artisanal production of the era.
Details Aesthetics and Construction
Design: The headboard and footboard feature refined scrollwork and heart motifs, typical of the floral or Liberty style. In the center of the headboard rises a full circular element (round), originally intended for crests or painted decorations.
Support deck: The lattice is made of a dense interwoven metal mesh, still intact and solid.
Frame: The chassis rests on four legs with original metal casters, fully functional, which facilitate movement. The side rails are characterized by a geometric grille that balances the curved decorations at the ends.
Finish: The metal displays a splendid authentic patina in natural zinc/iron gray, with subtle signs of aging that enhance its “industrial chic” character and certify its antiquity.
Conditions
The piece is presented in excellent conservation conditions considering its age. The structure is solid and stable. There are no obvious structural breaks, only natural superficial oxidation that gives charm and authenticity to the piece. (Please study the photos carefully, which are part of the description).
Recommended Use
In addition to its original purpose, this crib is an exceptional furnishing element for:
Interior Design: As a magazine holder, cushion or plant display in an industrial-style loft.
Retail/Window Display: Perfect as a scenographic support for children’s clothing stores or antique furniture displays.
Collecting: A piece of the domesticated material culture history from the 1800s to the 1900s.
Technical Features
- Material: Wrought iron, metal lattice.
- Era: circa 1890-1920.
- Origin: Europe (likely Italian or French manufacture).
- Extra: Original iron wheels.
