Armchair with arms in antique Renaissance Revival style, dating from about 1880–1910, with a solid wood frame and brocade fabric upholstery, dimensions 134 cm high, 65 cm wide and 68 cm deep.
Description from the seller
Renaissance Revival-style office/library armchair, richly carved, late 19th / early 20th century
Splendid antique armchair, a perfect piece for a classic office, a library, or as an elegant accent chair in a living room. The furniture is solidly built and clearly inspired by the rich and sumptuous style of the Italian Renaissance and Baroque.
Main Features:
Material and Craftsmanship: The frame is made of solid wood (likely walnut or oak), stained in a warm dark brown hue that enhances the grain and the deep carvings.
Carving Details: This chair stands out for the extraordinary richness of its hand-carved decorations:
The very high backrest culminates in a striking shell-shaped crestboard, flanked by prominent scroll volutes.
Under the seat, the front rail is enriched with a central shell-and-leaf motif, a theme repeated on the side skirts.
The armrests end in an elegant curled volute.
The front legs are beautifully profiled and terminate with rare carved feet in the shape of lion claws (or palmate feet), resting on decorated blocks.
Upholstery: The seat and back are generously padded and covered with a precious paisley/floral patterned brocade in tones of burgundy and antique gold, perfect for the historical style of the furniture. The upholstery appears solid and well preserved.
Condition of the Item (See Photos):
The chair is in good overall antique condition, evidenced by the natural and authentic patina of the wood. For full transparency, we note the following details visible in the close-up photos:
Wood wear: There are surface scratches, small dings, and areas where the finish has worn away (particularly on the armrest edges and the backcrest), normal for furniture of this age and use.
Stability: The wooden structure appears solid and stable, with no evident signs of looseness.
