Grande Appendiabiti da Parete in solid wood and brass, Umbertino style dating to 1890–1920, with dimensions 129 cm wide, 212 cm deep and 28.5 cm high, weighing 43.2 kg, made in Italy (Tuscany), in discrete condition with probable small pieces missing.
Description from the seller
Large Wall-Mounted Coat Rack for the Entrance in Solid Wood and Brass – Umbertine Style / Early 20th Century
Exclusive and imposing wall coat rack (or entrance paneling boiserie), superb testimony to Italian cabinetmaking of the late 19th century / early 20th century (full Umbertine period or early 1900s).
This refined piece of furniture is entirely made of high-quality solid wood (presumably walnut or stained chestnut), characterized by a warm, deep dark tone that highlights the natural grain of the wood.
The structure presents a classical and rigorous architectural line:
At the top rises a substantial molded cornice cap, typical of gentlemanly furniture of the era.
Right below is a practical shelf for umbrella storage or hat rack, supported laterally by two sturdy curved tubular supports in solid brass.
The central body is divided into elegant geometric paneling with raised checkered motifs, framed by raised geometric profiles.
The base rests on an protruding wooden plinth, solid and well squared.
Details of the hardware
The coat rack is equipped with 5 majestic double hanging hooks (with a long upper hook and a lower ring for umbrellas or bags) made of cast/brushed brass with a distinctly antique charm. The hardware bears a beautiful patina of time.
Condition
The piece presents itself in good structural and overall conservation condition, solid and ready to be hung. Being an authentic antique, it shows the normal and fascinating signs of time that testify to its history:
On the left side profile of the wood there are some superficial abrasions and traces of white paint/wall plaster (easily removable with a light restoration or cleaning).
The upper plane of the shelf and the base show a natural patina of use and period dust.
Some screws securing the brass hooks have been partially replaced over time for maintenance (as visible in the detail photos, some hooks have newer Phillips screws and others period slotted screws).
A piece of great character, perfect for valorizing entrances of historic homes and country estates, as well as as a contrasting element in modern lofts with industrial or eclectic design.
