Description
A beautiful collection of six antique Dutch Delft blue and white earthenware wall tiles dating from the 19th century.
The collection consists of four landscape tiles depicting traditional Dutch architecture, churches, sailing boats and coastal scenes, together with two decorative floral/tulip vase tiles. Each tile is individually hand-painted in cobalt blue under a tin-glazed surface, displaying the characteristic variation in brushwork that makes every example unique.
These tiles were originally produced as architectural wall tiles and today represent an attractive and authentic example of historic Dutch ceramic craftsmanship. Together they create a charming and highly decorative display while also being desirable collector’s pieces.
The tiles retain a wonderful aged patina with visible wear, glaze crazing, edge chips and firing irregularities consistent with their considerable age. Metal hanging wires have been added at a later date for display purposes.
Condition
• Good antique condition.
• Age-related wear, chips and edge losses.
• Minor glaze imperfections and crazing.
• Please study all photographs carefully as they form an integral part of the description.
Measurements
• Dimensions per tile: approximately 13 × 13 cm
• Thickness: approximately 0.8 cm
• Total weight: approximately 1.2 kg
A decorative and authentic group of antique Delft tiles that would make an excellent addition to any collection of European ceramics or historic interior decoration.
