Description from the seller
A high quality Quranic manuscript of the early Qajar dynasty (1794-1925) which had the exact date on the last page of AH1224, or AD 1809/10. The page contains the end of Surah 93, Ad-Duha (The Morning Sunlight) v.6-11, all of Surah 94, Ash-Sharh (Uplifting the Heart), and the opening of Surah 95 At-Tin (The Fig) v.1-3.
Ad-Duha and Ash-Sharh are paired Meccan surahs comforting the Prophet Muhammad during a period of revelatory silence, reassuring him that God had not abandoned him and outlining how hardship is followed by ease, repeated for empahsis, that remain a touchstone of Islamic consolidation theology. Ash-Sharh closes with the command to turn fully toward God once worldly tasks are finished, a verse often cited on devotion and gratitude.
At-Tin opens with the oaths by the fig, olive and Mount Sinai, leading into a declaration that humanity was created "in the best of forms" before potential decline. This is a foundational Vere on human dignity and the necessity of faith and righteous deeds for salvation.
Then script features Arabian text in naskh, with an interlinear Persian translation written in red in nasta'liq script. Highly decorative illuminated headers mark the chapters beginning. Simple gold roundels mark the verses and the whole being framed in a thick gold line. The right margin holds gilt cloud-band cartouche enclosing supplementary commentary typical of Qajar Quran illumination and mark the beginning of the new Chapters. The second indicates that the revelation was in Mecca rather than Medina, a standard scribal note marking the Surah's chronological geographic origin.
The reverse contain scripture from Surah 92, al-Layl (he Night) followed by the header and opening of Surah 93 (Ad-Duh which is completed on the front folio as described above.
The folio is in very good condition.
