Olivetti ICO MP1 portable typewriter, designed by Riccardo Levi, produced in the 1930s, in good used condition and in working order.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

The Olivetti ICO (more correctly named Olivetti MP1, Portable Machine 1) was the first portable typewriter produced by the Ivrea company. Born in 1932 from an idea by Adriano Olivetti, it owes its common name to the conspicuous front escutcheon bearing the ICO initials (Ingegner Camillo Olivetti).

Main features
• Production period: 1932 - 1950.
• Design: Designed by Riccardo Levi with stylistic input from Aldo and Adriano Magnelli.
• Keyboard: QZERTY configuration, typical of Italian machines of the era.
• Color options: In addition to the classic black, it was available in several variants including red, blue, light blue, gray and brown.
• Heritage: It is considered the progenitor of Olivetti portable typewriters, later replaced by the famous Olivetti Lettera 22.

History
This Olivetti ICO was used by my grandfather, a traveling salesman for building products, until his retirement in 1950. He met his clients while traveling by train and during the journey he wrote the offers with the Olivetti ICO resting on his knees.

After more than 75 years of inactivity, today it is still in excellent condition and fully functional using its original writing ribbon.
