Araucaria petrified wood from Madagascar

This fossilized slice of wood, an extinct conifer known as Araucaria, is approximately 220 million years old. Originally a tree trunk, it was transported by rivers and eventually buried under sedimentary layers, including a thick blanket of volcanic ash. Through a long process called epigenization, the wood's carbon was gradually replaced by silica, transforming it into a mineral.
To showcase its elegant warm brown and orange hues, as well as its growth rings, this petrified wood from Madagascar has been sawn and polished.
