Description from the seller
« Le Glyphoscope » – old stereoscopic photographic device – circa 1905-1925 Jules Richard Paris –
Description
Rare old stereoscopic photographic device « Le Glyphoscope » manufactured by Jules Richard in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century.
The Glyphoscope is an emblematic device of French stereoscopic photography. Designed both as a taking and viewing device, it allowed the creation and observation of relief images according to the stereoscopic method, very popular during the Belle Époque and the interwar period.
The proposed model presents a beautiful original patina and preserves its essential features:
• front dual objective ;
• upper viewfinder ;
• black metal construction ;
• mechanical controls present ;
• original markings visible.
The device is sold in its discovery state, not tested with plates. The mechanisms seem visually complete but no guarantee of operation is given given the object's age.
Beautiful collectible for a connoisseur of vintage photography, stereoscopic devices or Jules Richard equipment.
Condition
Old condition with normal signs of use and storage:
• surface wear ;
• occasional oxidations ;
• dust and patina consistent with age ;
• absence of aggressive cleaning to preserve authenticity.
Please carefully examine the photographs which are an integral part of the description.
History
The Jules Richard company, founded in Paris at the end of the 19th century, is famous for its stereoscopic devices « Vérascope » and « Glyphoscope », today sought after by collectors of vintage photography and optics.
The Glyphoscope constitutes one of the French devices most representative of the democratization of relief photography at the beginning of the 20th century.
