Pre-Columbian stirrup-spouted ceramic vessel with a modeled human face and a bridge handle that leads to the spout.
This form is called Stirrup-spout bottle (steigbügelgefäß).
The face could represent an ancestor, a deity, or a dignitary.
From the former Chimu culture, Peru, 800–1200 CE.
Provenance: Acquired from the heirs of a teacher who bought this object in Peru in the 1960s.
There is evidence from the heirs and some old photographs as provenance documentation
