Description from the seller
A large and architecturally impressive Art Deco furniture set in burr walnut veneer, consisting of the lower cabinet body and a matching hutch-bar on top. Together they form a cohesive and exceptionally functional dining room centerpiece, representing the highest level of cabinetmaking craftsmanship of the era.
Cabinet body — 213 × 103 × 61 cm
Four-door cabinet clad in rich burr walnut veneer; each door frame adorned with carved acanthus-woluta motifs on all four corners and framed by fluted pilasters. The interior is divided into three functional zones:
Left section (behind the doors): a five-drawer column in walnut and mahogany, with original recessed metal handles. The top drawer lined with black velvet — a traditional cutlery drawer characteristic of furniture of the highest quality.
Center section: a pull-out service tray with an inlaid stone plate (marble/onix) — a practical and elegant detail typical of the best Central European cabinets of the period.
Right section: an open shelving space with a decorative metal rail.
The cabinet top finished with the distinctive strongly rounded cornice in burr walnut. The cabinet rests on a stepped architectural plinth with decorative feet. Keys available for the central lock of the body and selected other locks.
Hutch-bar — 176 × 63 × 31 cm
The hutch rests centered on the cabinet top. The central portion is glazed with a sliding glass panel and a horizontal glass shelf — intended for displaying crystal and glassware. On both sides of the glazing, walnut doors conceal separate interiors: left with a wooden shelf; right with a marble-lined shelf and base — a bar section for storing decanters and bottles. The hutch is topped with a smooth, rounded cornice in burr walnut, and the underside is finished with an elegant molded wavy molding.
Condition: Offered in original, unrestored condition. No maker’s signature or stamp found on any element of the furniture after careful inspection of the undersides of all drawers and interior of the cabinets. The burr walnut veneer preserves a vivid and attractive wood grain, strikingly visible in natural light. Both pieces are structurally solid; the wood is dry, with no active moisture, swelling, or structural damage.
Surface wear is as follows and precisely documented in the photos:
- The cabinet top shows significant cosmetic wear: extensive scratches, areas of white bloom, and dulling of the varnish (typical lacquer degradation) plus one visible hairline veneer crack running across the surface. All entirely removable during professional restoration.
- The pull-out stone service tray has stains on the stone surface.
- One of the interior drawers bears an old, dry trace of a stain on the bottom.
- The hutch is in clearly better overall condition with lighter surface wear.
A significant and authentic period piece — striking in its current state as an object with genuine patina, and at the same time an excellent candidate for professional restoration.
Dimensions:
Cabinet body: 213 (W) × 103 (H) × 61 (D) cm
Hutch: 176 (W) × 63 (H) × 31 (D) cm
Excellent candidate for restoration or for use in its present condition as a piece with authentic patina.
The matching sideboard from the same set is exhibited as a separate item.
