A magnificent antique ship's compass. This unique piece is a real showpiece and a must-have for collectors of maritime objects or as a decorative element in a home, restaurant, or even usable on a (historic) ship.
Manufacturer: C. Plath, Hamburg Serial number: 6?81 (partly erased)
Another mark in the brass ring, the letters "NACHF" Probably German for "refill opening"
The compass is transparent at the bottom with the intention of indirectly lighting the compass rose with a lamp.
The compass is intact, functional, so it can be used on a ship.
The company C. Plath still exists and continues to manufacture high-quality nautical and maritime equipment, including compasses.
The compass can be hung on a ship with a cardan suspension or installed into a table, bar, etc.
The bottom of the compass is transparent (milky glass) for illumination at night when used on a ship
The compass is 24 cm in diameter, the cardan outer ring is 30 cm in diameter
Weight: approx. 15 kg
The compass can be picked up in Leiden (NL) or shipped.
