Title: Chef arabe; a circa 1880 albumen print in 18 × 26 cm, un Signed and attributed to Alexandre Leroux (XIX), a documentary photography work in very good condition (TTB).
Description from the seller
Circa 1880, 18x26 cm.
"Arab Chief", a very beautiful 19th-century albumen print, in very good condition, with preserved contrast, grayscale nuances and levels of detail from Very Good to Superb, attributed to Alexandre Leroux.
The interest of this print is that it is not mounted on an album page or cardboard support, which is rare.
Hand-labeled on the reverse (Arab Chief).
Deserves framing.
Will be shipped with its sleeve at neutral pH (ideal for a collection in good conditions).
Based in Algiers, Alexandre Leroux produced numerous studio photographs and portraits of local “types,” depicting men and women in traditional costumes, in the late nineteenth century. These images, often accompanied by captions such as “Moorish,” “Arab,” “City costume” or “Type of Algerian woman,” are numbered and distributed as prints or albums intended for European travelers.
Will be shipped with its sleeve and its cardboard backing at neutral pH (ideal for a collection in good conditions).
