Description from the seller
Circa 1900, 22x28 cm.
"Bedouins of the Desert", a very beautiful vintage silver gelatin print from the era tinted with selenium salts (warm color shift), large format, in very good condition with preserved contrast, gray nuances and levels of detail from TTB to superb, by Alexandre Bougault.
The print’s interest lies in not being mounted on an album page or cardboard backing, which is rare.
Signed with a dry seal at the bottom right of the print.
Deserves framing.
Will be shipped with its neutral pH sleeve (ideal for a collection in good condition).
Settled in Biskra at the end of the 19th century, Alexandre Bougault opened a workshop there in the heart of an oasis then frequented by European travelers. He develops a local production mixing portraits, religious figures and scenes of daily life.
His photographs are distinguished by sober framings, soft light and meticulous attention to faces, fabrics and textures, giving his subjects an embodied intensity.
