Comtoise
18th-century Comtoise clock with bloated dial, featuring horizontally arranged Roman numerals with quarter-hour indicators.
signature of the enamelist:
‘Navand’ signed under the ‘VI’
The brass casting has three lilies in an open medallion
ajour cut brass hands, a straight-line laid ‘O’ motif
complete with two old sand-casted weights
the clock runs for one week when the weights are fully wound
strike mechanism with two hammers for half- and full-hour strike on a cast 18th-century bell
hour strike; ‘Farmer’s strike’ > once on the hour and again after a few minutes.
“ the farmer used the thread hanging from the clock beside the bedstead for the hour strike ”
The clock has been revised, in working order/striking. It is provided with beautiful clock decorations and details (photos)

- the dial is still original and had a few light blemishes before restoration
- two hand-cut brass corner pieces under the dial
- attractive clock decorations such as;
the two strike-plate springs, hammers endowed with beads
> the clock is partially dismantled to prevent damage.
