Description from the seller
A beautiful Chinese reticulated layered jade panel, often referred to as a reticulated jade plaque, set into the lid of a wooden box. This type of refined carving is historically common on ceremonial mounts or ornamental elements from the Ming or Qing dynasties.
The Box: The plaque has been skillfully mounted in the lid of a wooden box in a later period (Qing dynasty or early 20th century). The wood shows a gorgeous deep red-brown flame and a warm patina, characteristic of precious Chinese hardwoods such as Zitan or Rosewood or Huanghuali?
Wooden case: In good, original condition with a handsome patina of age. The lid shows a small, completely natural shrinkage crack in the grain of the wood, weight 242 grams.
The plaque is in good, original antique condition with minimal signs of aging. No large cracks or restorations. Given the extreme complexity of the deep, openwork carving, minute chips or natural imperfections in the material are inherent to the age and the handmade process. Please study the detail photos carefully for your own assessment of the condition.
Carefully packed and insured for shipping.
