Description from the seller

Rare French hand stereoscope from about 1893, made of dark polished wood with brass details. On the brass plaque is inscribed “11 Avril 1893.” This compact optical instrument is designed for glass stereoscopic slides and still contains one original stereoscopic image card with a Mediterranean coast landscape in sepia.

The model features an elegantly curved wooden body, a retractable brass focusing system, and large eye cups for a bright and comfortable 3D image. On top there is a hinged wooden lid that covers the viewing opening and the matte-glass screen against stray light. Focusing works via a ribbed knob on the side, and the original wooden slide moves smoothly in and out.

The condition is very good for an object of this age: nice patina, normal signs of use, no structural damage and fully functional. An attractive collectible item and a beautiful decorative piece for lovers of antique optical instruments and 19th-century photography.

Weight: 500 g
Dimensions: 19 x 14 x 11 cm
Materials: wood, brass, glass

Perfect for collectors of antique cameras, optical instruments and French decorative art.
