Description from the seller
"London 1958-59" is a photobook by Sergio Larraine, a photographer born in Santiago, Chile.
While studying forestry at the University of California, Berkeley, he developed an interest in photography. After working as a freelance photographer for magazines and other publications, he was discovered by Henri Cartier-Bresson and joined Magnum Photos in 1961.
However, from 1970 onward, he secluded himself in the mountains of Chile, devoting himself to yoga and meditation, and withdrew from photography, becoming a mysterious and legendary photographer. This book contains photographs taken by Larraine while he was living in London in 1958, before he moved to Paris in 1961 and joined Magnum Photos. The editing and composition were handled by Martin Parr. While the subjects themselves evoke a sense of history, the photographs themselves possess a cutting-edge quality that doesn't feel dated.
