Three antique painted wooden panels from circa 1900, measuring 156 cm high by 25 cm wide and 3 cm deep, weighing 15 kg, in good condition with age-related signs, intended as decorative ceiling elements or boiserie.
Description from the seller
Three architectural wooden panels painted with a polychrome floral decoration.
A lot composed of three ancient parallel wooden strips, made of assembled rectangular slats and manually decorated with motifs of traditional taste.
Each panel presents a rhythmic sequence of shaped reserves within which sits a stylized multi-petaled rosette, executed in ochre tones and warm yellow. The rosettes are enclosed by geometric frames with a straight-line profile, connected to one another by continuous decorative elements with scroll motifs and linear junctions, creating a refined modular effect typical of historic architectural decorations.
The color palette features a cream or antique white background, enhanced by sage green and olive green for the frames and geometric elements, with details in ochre, terracotta, and orange that give depth and vibrancy to the composition.
The surface bears a significant patina of time, with visible wood grain, natural cracks, abrasions, wear of the polychromy, and irregular edges, elements consistent with the age and previous architectural use. Such characteristics contribute to the authentic charm of the whole and testify to its long conservation history.
In terms of technique, decorative setup, and ornament repertoire, the panels echo the decorative tradition of southern Italy, with particular affinity to stylized floral motifs widespread in Sicily and also present in historical maiolica productions. Their form suggests original use as elements of a decorated wooden ceiling, a boiserie, or an architectural frieze.
