Refined and scenographic three-tier iron and steel coffee table, engraved by hand, produced in Western Europe between the late 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century, attributable to the historicist, arms-and-hunting-inspired production.
The piece stands out for:
• Three shield-shaped shelves, made of heavy metal, richly hand-engraved with heraldic motifs, facing animals, trophies of arms and foliate decorations
• A supporting framework composed of elements inspired by gun barrels and rifle butts, assembled decoratively, in keeping with a practice widespread among armsmaker workshops and late 19th-century artistic studios
• Chased details also on the vertical structural elements, with meticulous attention to detail
• Solid and balanced construction, conceived as a prestigious decorative furnishing piece
Such objects were intended for studies, armories, libraries, hunting clubs or noble residences, as prestigious decorative furnishings inspired by Renaissance aesthetics.
