Description from the seller
Regency / William IV Folding Table in Inlaid Mahogany, Early 19th Century - On Brass Casters
A refined folding table in Regency/William IV style, dating from the early 19th century, is offered at auction. This piece exemplifies the restrained elegance and practicality of British design from that period.
The table is made of high-quality mahogany, with a highly polished flame veneer on the folding D-shaped top. The surface is adorned with a subtle dark perimeter inlay (likely ebony or faux ebony), which also runs along the edges of the band and the drawer.
Main Features:
Folding Top: The top folds in half, transforming a smaller gaming/service table into a larger dining table.
Gate-Leg Mechanism: It features a hinged rear leg (gate-leg type) that opens to provide solid support for the extended top.
Drawer: The frieze includes a functional drawer with two elegant aged-brass drop handles and a matching brass keyhole escutcheon.
Legs: Four slender, square legs, decorated with dark inlays and topped with original brass casters.
Shape: Rounded D-shaped edges.
Condition:
The item is in good vintage condition with signs of use consistent with age (over 200 years).
The top shows some superficial scratches and small dings.
There are more specific signs of wear, including a pronounced dent and an area of discoloration/veneer wear near the hinged edge.
The brass hinges are functional but show an aged patina and accumulated grime.
The drawer slides well. The casters are intact and functional.
Please examine the provided macro photos closely, which show in detail the condition and flaws. The table has an authentic patina and has not been heavily restored.
Usage:
Perfect as a gaming table, tea table, dining table for small spaces, or as an accent piece in a hallway or living room.
Origin: Italian private collection.
