WMF - WMF - Serving tray - Spelter

A pewter serving tray produced by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) of Geislingen, Germany, dating to the early twentieth century, circa 1900–1910. The tray is executed in the Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) style and features a central relief scene depicting a mounted knight-hunter accompanied by his hounds, facing a stag silhouetted at the horizon; this courtly-hunt subject was characteristic of German Jugendstil metalwork of the period, and WMF was among the principal producers of such decorative pewter wares for the bourgeois domestic market. The piece bears the WMF maker's mark. Dimensions: 26 x 47 cm; weight not recorded. Condition is Good. The tray shows a general curvature across the body. There is a repair to the upper centre section on the reverse, where a new hook connection for hanging has been added; this repair is visible and should be carefully considered by prospective buyers.
