Portuguese colonial coin minted for the territory of Macau, one of the last European possessions in Asia. On the obverse the coat of arms of Portugal stands out over a field of the armillary sphere, a symbol of the Portuguese discoveries, accompanied by the denomination of the territory. The reverse presents the issuer country’s official legend and the year of minting, together with the same heraldic shield. This 1 Pataca piece blends European influence with Chinese characters, reflecting the multicultural context of the region at that time. Its high grade MS66 denotes an exceptional condition, with original luster and sharp details.
