Description from the seller
We are offering at auction a rare Olivetti "Sistema 45" chair, an iconic project by Ettore Sottsass. A piece of design history, ideal for those seeking a restoration project or a furnishings element with an authentic vibe.
Condition of the item:
The chair presents itself in its original condition, with tangible signs of time that tell its story. I have personally started a cleaning and residue removal work (such as vintage adhesive), but the seat surface is currently matte and still shows signs of wear.
This is an object to be completed: the chair requires further aesthetic finishing work to be returned to its former splendor.
Important technical note:
The chair is sold exclusively as a collectible item or for display purposes.
In addition to the above-described aesthetic conditions, the absence of the original centering bushing between the seat mechanism and the cross-shaped base is noted. This creates mechanical play that prevents safe daily use.
Ideal for:
Restorers and collectors seeking an authentic base on which to work.
Display or studio projects where the “worn” industrial aesthetic is an added value.
An opportunity to acquire an icon of Sottsass design, purchased with full awareness of the current aesthetic and mechanical conditions.
