Auction description

Offered is a decorative and characterful pair of antique cast-iron sculptures, executed as bookends or desk ornaments. The figures are nicely detailed and depict a romantic hunting scene on horseback.

The set consists of:

- an Amazon or falconer on horseback with a hunting bird on the left hand;
- a rider on horseback with a hunting horn, presumably a hunter or master of the hunt.

The sculptures are made of solid cast iron and finished with their original black protective lacquer (asphalt lacquer/iron lacquer), a traditional finish commonly used for decorative cast iron from the late 19th and early 20th century. The deep black gloss and the natural signs of use contribute to the authentic look.

These decorative objects fit well in a classic, country, or historic interior and are both functional as bookends and decorative collector items.
