Cornelius Saunders & Frank Shepherd – Sterling Silver Coronation (Anointing) Spoon – London, circa 1902
A rare sterling silver commemorative spoon by Cornelius Saunders & Frank Shepherd, London, modelled after the historic Coronation (Anointing) Spoon used during the anointing ceremony of British monarchs.
This example is engraved "Edward VII. Aug. 9th 1902", commemorating the coronation of King Edward VII, together with the original owner's initials "R.N.T." The spoon features an engraved bowl, decorative knop, and twisted terminal, all inspired by the famous medieval Coronation Spoon preserved with the British Crown Jewels.
