Description from the seller
Thonet Two Seat Canapé — Model 6281 (1900)
An authentic Gebrüder Thonet two seat Canapé, Model 6281, produced in 1900.
The piece belongs to my family Thonet Collection.
It retains its original “Thonet Wien” and “Thonet Austria” stamps and paper marks, confirming provenance and early Vienna manufacture.
Materials:
Steam bent tinted beechwood frame. Straw filled seat, backrest, and side panels upholstered in a leather-like, burgundy oilcloth with decorative tack trim—an iconic Thonet material choice of the period.
Condition:
All original, and 100% unrestored. The burgundy oilcloth shows natural, age appropriate wear, while maintaining structural integrity and historical authenticity. The principal blemish is confined to the front section of the seat, where the oilcloth is slightly torn, as shown in the relevant photograph. The frame remains solid, preserving the graceful curves characteristic of early Thonet bentwood craftsmanship.
Dimensions:
110 × 93 × 50 cm (L × H × D)
Part of a Rare Five Piece Thonet Ensemble:
This Canapé can be acquired individually or as part of a cohesive and exceptionally rare collection of early Thonet bentwood furniture, all sharing identical stamps, upholstery, and the fluid, organic lines of the Vienna Secession style.
• Thonet Model 6081 tripod chairs — set of three, first edition (1910)
• Thonet rocking armchair Model 7481d — produced in 1910
Together, these five pieces form a unified and historically significant ensemble rarely seen in private collections.
