[Religion] Official de Langres - Plainte pour vol de céréales - 1693

Partially handwritten document, dated 1693, in the name of the Official of Langres, describing a complaint by Master Claude Tremizot for Nicolas Delaverne, captain in the King’s regiment: "Some malefactors, having neither fear of God nor concern for their salvation, taking advantage of the absence of Mr. de Laverne, who is currently at the service of His Majesty in his troops, to enter into his granaries at Petite Véronnes with the help of false keys and have stolen almost all the wheat, flour, [...]. And since such a theft is a qualified crime for which it is important for the petitioner to obtain proof, which he cannot obtain without recours to ecclesiastical censures...."

It is requested of the clergy to report any elements that could advance the investigation.

Printed, in Latin: "As, in order to remedy the situation, we have been humbly solicited, we order you and each of you to prescribe the following: that, by our authority, you diligently warn, formally and canonically, during the solemn offices in your churches, everyone, that those who know something of the aforementioned facts and do not reveal them (those whom we warn by this) must present themselves before you to reveal them fully within six days from the warning you will give them in our name."
