Description from the seller
Silver reliquary bracelet – Saint Camillus – 19th century
Rare silver reliquary bracelet, of open bangle form, containing a relic of Saint Camillus... doubtfully Saint Camillus de Lellis (1550-1614), founder of the Order of Clerks Regular Ministers of the Sick, better known as the Camillians. The exact identification of the saint remains to be confirmed.
The lid is adorned with a repoussé silver medallion depicting a pilgrim saint accompanied by a bird, in a finely engraved mountainous scene. The surround features a two-tone mounting.
Overall good condition with the usual signs of wear for an object of this age. Noted: a slight loss of silvering at the level of the medallion, as well as discreet wear and weathering marks.
This type of reliquary bracelet, at once jewelry and a personal devotion object, was intended to be worn daily as a sign of spiritual protection. Examples kept with their authentic relics are relatively rare on the market.
Provenance: former private collection.
The photos are an integral part of the object’s description and complement its presentation. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
Happy bidding
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred art object. The relics it contains are not the subject of the transaction, but are included gratuitously for their historical and cultural value.
