Description from the seller
Fine Illuminated Qur'an - Lacquer Binding
A finely executed handwritten Persian Qur'an in a compact format (approximately 12 × 8 cm), most likely dating to the 19th century. The manuscript is written in elegant black naskh script with red rubrication and extensive use of gold throughout the text. Many pages feature gold-highlighted lines, giving the manuscript a luminous appearance.
The Qur'an opens with a magnificent double-page illuminated frontispiece executed in rich blue, gold, red, and white pigments, displaying the high level of craftsmanship associated with Persian manuscript production. Surah headings are written in gold cartouches, while verse markers are highlighted in red.
One of the most remarkable features of this manuscript is its Persian lacquer binding. Both covers are beautifully hand-painted: the upper cover decorated with a vibrant floral bouquet enclosed within an elegant gilt border, while the inner cover displays a delicate flowering plant painted on a brilliant red lacquer ground. The binding is a fine example of traditional Persian lacquer art and significantly enhances the manuscript's artistic and collectible value.
The manuscript appears to be complete, with its lacquer binding preserved. The paper has naturally aged over time, showing expected signs of use and age, including light staining and wear consistent with an antique devotional manuscript. The illumination remains bright and attractive, and the manuscript retains excellent visual appeal.
