Shell Ensis lithographed tin in metal, dating from 1940–1950, measuring 27 × 16 × 13 cm and weighing about 0.514 kg, made in France.
Description from the seller
One of a kind! The item presented at auction is a very rare and authentic vintage Shell advertising tin dated between 1940 and 1950, dedicated to anti-corrosion lubricating oil, protective fluid, and industrial rust inhibitor. Workshops and factories used it to protect car bodies, metals, machinery, molds, and mechanical parts from rust. The tin is entirely lithographed metal with an original period screw-cap and welded handle. Shell's Ensis line, dedicated to specific anti-corrosion oils for the protection of car bodies, machinery and mechanical components, much less widespread than motor oil cans, is today highly appreciated and sought after by automobilia and petroliana collectors. The tin represents an interesting example of European “petroliana,” characterized by lively graphics and features the classic Shell shell logo. The tin presents in good overall aesthetic condition, authentic, not cleaned and not restored, with its original patina and with signs of wear, widespread oxidation and wear to the lithographed surface, which attest to its authenticity and use, which do not diminish the beauty of the object but rather testify to its age and give it vintage charm. The tin comes from an old decommissioned workshop. Its dimensions are 27x16x13 cm, weighing about 0.5 kg, with a capacity of about 5 L. Photos are an integral part of the description. A unique and exclusive item intended for pure collecting of automotive items and petroliana memorabilia or for decorating a garage, workshops and themed spaces. Item seen and appreciated from photographic documentation and in its current condition as shown in the photographs.
