A beautiful and very characterful antique wooden letter opener from the period around 1900. A wonderful collector's item for lovers of antique desk accessories, folk art, and dogs. This object is hand-carved in the recognizable 'Black Forest' style. The handle is very finely designed as an alert dog head (terrier/hunting dog) and is equipped with the original inlaid glass eyes. The transition from the handle to the sleek, flat wooden blade is nicely finished with an authentic brass collar, firmly fixed with the original pins. With a generous length of 28 cm, this is a stout and imposing desk object, at the time used for opening envelopes and uncut book pages.
