Description from the seller
Collection of antique handmade laces and lacework - Irish Crochet Lace and Carving - Edwardian Era (6 pieces)
Estimated period: Late 19th Century – Early 20th Century (Belle Époque / Edwardian Era / circa 1900-1910).
Main material: Finely twisted cotton thread, cotton batiste and antique linen in ivory white, cream and natural ecru tones. Entirely handmade with high-level techniques of European textile craftsmanship. A splendid and important collection of 6 vintage textile items and historical fashion accessories, ideal for collectors, museum display, or study.
The collection consists of six unique pieces, described individually:
- Large collar with deep “V” neckline (Fichu): Masterpiece in Irish Crochet Lace. Rich in three-dimensional floral motifs (rosettes, daisies, and shamrocks) on a delicate ground net with tiny picots. Extraordinary length of 70 cm (from the nape to the lower point).
- Short bodice (Bolero): Shaped waistcoat in coordinating Irish Crochet Lace, characterized by large raised acanthus leaves and a decorative mirror-imaged layout. Open development: 74 cm wide.
- Crescent-shaped collar: Irish Crochet Lace element with three-dimensional daisies and a ground worked with characteristic Clones Knots.
- Ovular plastron (bodice insert): Decorative bib embroidered with a central raised medallion (stem stitch daisies) and a geometric cutwork frame.
- “Y”-neckline application: Rigid blouse insert with a centrally made rosette, heavily raised embroidered grapevine tendrils, and a geometric open perimeter edge.
- Half apron: Lightweight cotton/linen wedding accessory with horizontal inserts of lace and English embroidery, complete with long original ribbons and a pointed scalloped lower edge.
Overall in good conservative condition considering the age and fragility of historic artifacts. The threads retain excellent structural robustness. As with authentic fabrics over a century old, very slight and normal signs of wear are present: the large collar shows a minimal and micrometer interruption on the inner edge finishing band around the neck (well documented in macro photos); the bolero and small collar show a few extremely tiny, physiological interruptions in the ground net. No significant damage or coarse restoration; beautiful warm and uniform antique patina.
Pieces will be packed with utmost care, protected by tissue paper and shipped in a rigid box to preserve the lace’s three-dimensional motifs. Tracked and insured shipping.
