Description from the seller
Walking Cane with a Silver 800 Head Cane-Top Handle at the End of the 19th Century
Elegant vintage walking cane, dating to the late 19th century, a crafted piece that blends functionality with a sophisticated design.
This unique lot features an extraordinary solid silver handle shaped as a dog’s head, depicting a pointer or a setter with surprisingly realistic details. End of the 19th century (circa 1880–1900), based on style and marks.
A meticulous silver sculpture that captures the attentive expression and the texture of the dog’s fur. The handle also features a decorative collar with a stylized buckle, adding an extra level of detail.
* A clearly defined "800" hallmark, attesting to the silver’s purity.
* A leaf- or shield-shaped hallmark (likely an acanthus leaf or a noble shield), which may identify the maker or place of origin (probably Italy or Germany).
The shaft is made of wood, in a rich golden-brown color with visible grain. The joint between the silver handle and the wooden shaft is reinforced by a slim, clean ferrule.
The silver handle shows signs of use consistent with its age, including a natural surface patina that enhances its artistic depth (easily removable at the buyer’s discretion). The wooden shaft shows superficial scratches and minor abrasions from use over time, but remains solid and functional. Overall, the condition is excellent for an item of this antiquity.
The weight is for the entire cane.
Careful, tracked shipping, carried out with appropriate materials.
