Paleolithic protobiface, a solid early Acheulean tool with a reserved base, made of chert, measuring 115 × 90 mm, originating from Seguiet el Hamra in the Western Sahara and in excellent condition with minimal flaking, acquired from a Belgian private collection and authentic/original.
Description from the seller
Massive protobiface with a reserved base from the early Acheulean, a typical tool of Homo erectus who lived then. These tools are regarded as transitional pieces between the earlier choppers/chopping tools and the fully flaked hand axes. Characteristic is the preservation of a large part of the cortex and, with a minimum of flakes, still striving for a pointed form. These protobifaces are not common in large assemblages. Made from chert/flint. Originating from the Western Sahara, Seguiet el Hamra.
Little to no wear traces and in excellent condition. See photos.
No restorations
