Massive protobiface with a reserved base from the early Acheulean, a typical tool of Homo erectus who lived then. These tools are regarded as transitional pieces between the earlier choppers/chopping tools and the fully flaked hand axes. Characteristic is the preservation of a large part of the cortex and, with a minimum of flakes, still striving for a pointed form. These protobifaces are not common in large assemblages.
