Harrach - Vase - Opaline glass

Harrach Glassworks. The item in the photo is a vase made of uranium glass, which is characterized by bright, neon-green fluorescence under ultraviolet (UV) light. This effect arises from a small amount of uranium dioxide added to the glass melt as a colorant. Decoration: The plant motif and insect were hand-painted with enamel by anonymous art-decorators employed at the glassworks of that era. The bottom of the vase is smooth and rounded, with no trace of a glass-blowing pipe (the so-called "rwanej pipy"), which confirms that this is high-quality artistic glass, whose base was precisely ground and hot-polished in the furnace. Vases of this type were produced at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
