Description from the seller
Unique piece of history for lovers of early antique kitchenware and hearth implements! Offered: a gorgeous, authentic chestnut roasting pan (kastanjepan) from the 18th century (ca. 1740 - 1790). This rare object was used to roast chestnuts above the open fire of the hearth or stove. Authentic craftsmanship
This exemplar breathes pre-industrial, purely artisanal handiwork. At the rear the pan is equipped with a splendid, hand-forged three-part iron 'claw' (fork construction) with which the long, heavy handle is firmly attached to the pan with robust rivets. Each hole in the decorative, flower-shaped pattern was punched by hand in the copper at the time.
The pan is in a fair, unrestored antique condition with a fantastic, well-worn patina layer.
No modern cleaning agents were used, thereby preserving the historical character in full.
An absolute eye-catcher next to the open fireplace, in a country kitchen, or as a centerpiece in an antique collection.
Material: Hammered copper, hand-forged iron
Dating: 18th century (ca. 1740-1790)
Condition: Good, sturdy antique condition with beautiful original patina (see detail photos for the sublime metalwork)
Will be shipped very carefully and securely packed.
The wooden handle has decayed but can obviously be easily replaced. Length of the handle to be customized to your preference.
